A Statement from PFSC

The Pasadena Figure Skating Club joins with our governing body, the United States Figure Skating Association, to condemn anti-Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate crimes. According to a study from California State University, San Bernardino, hate crimes against AAPI communities have increased 164% in 16 of America’s largest cities in the last year. We pledge to ensure that our club events are safe spaces for our AAPI members. We do not tolerate hate speech or other forms of discrimination within our Club. To learn more about the AAPI experience in the figure skating community, please check out the USFS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force’s Instagram Live series during AAPI Heritage Month. #StopAsianHate

2021 U.S. Championship Series Virtual Juvenile/Intermediate Results

PFSC is proud to announce that THREE of our intermediate ladies qualified for the 2021 National Development Team!

To do so, they had to compete in a virtual US Juvenile/Intermediate audition and place in the top 20 of girls age 11 to 13. Out of 162 competitors, our members placed FIRST, 4th, and 18th, meaning all three qualified!

In addition, the competitors were placed in groupings to be judged, and all three of our members “medaled” in those groups, placing first, first, and third respectively. Congratulations to all of them and their teams and families!

Elyce Lin-Gracey – First overall, first in Group L
Athena Huang – Fourth overall, first in Group J
Natasha Frank – 18th overall, third in Group I

Standing Together

The first black skater was not admitted to a figure skating club until 1965 when Richard Ewell joined a local Los Angeles based club. The figure skating community is not immune to society’s systemic racism.

Along with United States Figure Skating, our national governing body, the Pasadena Figure Skating Club stands united in support of anti-racism. We are horrified and outraged at the recent displays of police brutality to black men, in particular, and what has been happening continuously to people of color since our country’s founding. The PFSC Board of Directors is looking into what steps it can take to promote changes that are, finally, not empty or temporary but are systematically sustained through thoughtful determined strategies.

We see you and we stand with you. Black Lives Matter.
